TOTA HISTORY

Texas Opioid Treatment Alliance, Inc. (TOTA) is a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation, incorporated in 2000. Initially TOTA was created to develop a working relationship between providers and non-providers and increase access to methadone treatment services across the state of Texas. 

 

TOTA MISSION

The Vision of TOTA is to increase the availability, affordability, and quality of Pharmacotherapy (Methadone) Treatment in Texas. We seek to promote growth and development of methadone treatment services; to advise members as to changes in applicable laws and regulations and advancements in methadone treatment; to coordinate and communicate among methadone treatment programs and patients; to assist the general public in its understanding of methadone treatment; to support program and services relative to the treatment control and/or prevention of substance abuse; and to enhance the quality of patient care in the provision of services to substance abusers and their families.

 

TOTA PURPOSE

The purposes for which this corporation is organized are: to promote good will and cooperation among its members; to promote growth and development of methadone treatment services; to advise it members as to changes in applicable laws and regulations and advancements in methadone treatment; coordination and communication among methadone treatment programs and patients; assist the general public in its understanding of methadone treatment;  to support program and services relative to the treatment control and/or prevention of substance abuse; to enhance the quality of patient care in the provision of services to substance abusers and their families; and to do all such acts and things as may be necessary, proper, and advisable for the benefit of its members.

 

TOTA GOALS

  • Empower all persons in pharmacotherapy.
  • Reduce stigma associated with pharmacotherapy.
  • Increase the number of opiate addicted individuals participating in pharmacotherapy.
  • Improve the acceptance of pharmacotherapy as a legitimate treatment alternative in the general, judicial, medical, and professional communities.
  • Establish a group of providers that is committed to empowering the patient through information, and encourages a willingness to accept feedback from the patient.
  • Assist programs in Texas in the development of Patient Advocacy Groups and peer support groups.
